Check that the sound volume is adjusted to an audible level by turning the VOLUME/POWER OFF knob on the device
Headphones are connected to the device. Remove them and adjust the sound volume.

The headphones are not fully inserted and are causing humming or sound distortion. Check that the headphones are fully inserted into the headphone jack on the device.
